Summer Traps – Oh Lannie

If you frequent this site, you definitely are aware that our main man, Dave Dean, is coming out with his new album “Summer Traps”. In anticipation of it, we are releasing song after song until the whole album is out. Here is his newest release entitled “Oh Lannie” with lyrics after the jump.

OH LANNIE

A fur vest that’s too small
over a violet blazer,
cuffs and fox hair
caught on stained finger tips.

Imagine inanimate
objects as body parts
opinions of faces
drawn from thin air.

Oh Lannie

Within half an inch of your nail
the ash falls to the floor,
your grey pyjamas
are burned with small holes.

Leaning out the window,
salt-sweaty palms,
collect all the dust
and paint from the sill.
All the furniture faces the walls.

Oh Lannie,
what you do to me –
everything gained
is lost again.

Perched on the steps
cutting up credit cards,
a cracking voice
flashes brace-removed teeth.

“Here’s the money you lent me,
now I don’t owe you anything.
Sick of paying,
rent to the prison guards.”

Oh Lannie,
what you do to me –
everything gained
is lost again.

Close the door quietly
on all the laughter
and empty an ashtray
into the bathwater.

Swallow your tongue
trying to kiss your own throat
then fall asleep
in the arms of your coat.

Oh Lannie,
what you do to me –
everything gained
is lost again.
