King ROBBO – Rest In Peace

English graffiti legend ROBBO recently passed away due to complications with an injury suffered in 2011. As a self-proclaimed London king since the 1980s, King ROBBO has had some of the world’s notorious graffiti works on the streets. Probably most notably his epic battle with Bristol stencil artist BANKSY. For decades until his injury ROBBO has put in tremendous amounts of work in the streets by himself and with Team ROBBO and WRH crew. Always a shame to see another writer fall. Respects and condolences to his friends, family and crew. Read a statement from Team ROBBO HERE.

Hot Tea – Children Of The Grave

“As an ex-graffiti writer of 12+ years there is no denying the influence of 80’s NYC subway graffiti had on me. I still remember the first time watching Style Wars and how much of an impact it had on me and my work. Dondi’s work stood out to me amongst them all. The way he spoke about his work, the colors and the style in which he wrote his letters were very inspiring. I no longer practice writing graffiti and have taken on yarn as my new medium of choice. I wanted to create a piece about one of my biggest influences non-destructively. The result was a performance piece with Dondi’s “Children of the Grave” series split up into small rectangles. Each rectangle was built up using individual strands of yarn in a grey color scheme to mimic the color of the subway. I then took Dondi’s iconic subway whole cars and created stencils of them. I broke up the stencil into sections and created what you see. Every time a subway passes through the station, it is as if Dondi’s work is back on the trains, just like they were back in the 80’s. Rest peacefully Donald. You are missed by so many. April 7, 1961 — October 2, 1998″ – Hot Tea

DAZE – Wynwood Walls 2012

Graffiti legend DAZE participated in creating a mural this past year in Miami for Wynwood Walls. this is what he had to say about the piece: “dealt with the issue that our cities are not as protected as we think they are. The Hurricane Sandy disaster was looming in the back of my mind as I painted a scene of oncoming storm clouds that are rushing towards the city. In my vision the city is however protected by a force field. The entire scene is overlooked by a woman’s dream like eyes.”
