Graffiti Research Lab – Spray Painting Technologies

People from the Graffiti Research Lab in France have been inventing new innovative technologies in regards to applying paint onto surfaces. Here we have a couple of videos that show the use of various machines such as leaf blowers, power drills and automated vacuum cleaners which spray out various colours of paint.

Eske Rex – Drawing Machine

“Drawingmachine is a construction involving two pendulums, each suspended from a tower construction and connected through “drawing arms” and moveable joints. A ballpoint pen resting on a drawing surface covered with paper is mounted at the point where the pendulums come together. The pendulums are set in motion by hand, and their movements are represented on the paper. The Drawing Machine serves to purposes: On exhibitions where the movements of the pendulums affect the entire room, and the experience engages the beholder’s body. While the rhythmic repetitions cause the beholder to pause, the drawing emerges on the paper. And as a tool where investigations on the relation between time and movement.” – Eske Rex

Andreas Nicolas Fischer – Spectral Density Estimation

“Spectral Density Estimation is a pair of sculptures commissioned by the SECCA and the Winston-Salem Symphony orchestra. Two sound recordings of the first organized tuning were taken at the last 2 orchestra performances of the 2012 / 2013 season. Each recording was analyzed and transformed into a spatial arrangement of the audio frequencies over time. The resulting geometry was then carved into a block of wood from a cedar tree, that had fallen outside the museum.” – Andreas Nicholas Fischer

SoKANNO x YANG02 – Senseless Drawing Bot

Japanese artist/designer duo SoKANNO and yang02 have created a drawing bot about a year ago and it has developed now into a full fledged extinguisher-esque destruction machine. If only it had a mind of its own so you could just set it up and let it ride.
